HyperGrid Issues

Randy Pierce

I am operating my own grid using v0.7.4 under Windows XP. I am utilizing WAMP for my web server.

What I need to know is why the HyperGrid on my grid keeps reporting “teleport refused – unable to verify identity”

What specific changes must I make either in my OpenSim.ini or RobustHG.ini for this to work properly?
I have my OpenSim.ini set to use GridHyperGrid.ini … not sure what to change now. It worked about 3 months ago.

If you have received this email and wish to be removed from the list, please send an email to the sender. This email list is used for the sole purpose of sending out band-specific information as part of routine business with the Kenwood High School Band and Booster Club, Inc. and is not intended to be shared or used for any other purpose. Please report suspected violations to Ms. Suiter and to this email address.

Hi,

There are two previous listserv threads where Diva has replied about similar Hypergrid issues that may be helpful in your situation:

The second one I consider required reading for anyone who needs to understand how the Hypergrid networking stuff works.  Hopefully that information will help you troubleshoot the problem.

Best of luck and let us know how it goes!

RE: HyperGrid Issues

Well Fleep -> bad news. I have read both posts by Diva in their entirety and they did not repair the problem.

I am attempting to solve multiple problems simultaneously and not having luck with any of them.

Meanwhile, rather than open up another thread I am running into another issue.

I am attempting to split region loads across multiple computers (all running windows xp and 0.7.4) but cannot for the life of me get the SQL to be able to be accessed from computer #2. Re: HyperGrid Issues

Fleep Tuque
Hi Randy,

Based on the 192.168.x.x IP addresses, I'm assuming you're doing all this on a home network.  On the issue of the Hypergrid, I've found that I am unable to hypergrid from any machine on my home network EXCEPT the machine running the ROBUST server.  That is, if I open the client on the same machine running ROBUST, I can HG jump to other grids, but if I open the client on any other machine on my home network, HG jump does not work and I see the same kinds of errors you posted in your original post.

I keep hoping at some point there will be a fix to that, since I basically can't use the Hypergrid from my own grid at all as a result, but for now if I want to go HG visiting other grids, I have to log in to someone else's grid as the starting point to jumping around.

Regarding your instance setup, in pretty much all cases, I think you will want to use the FQDN instead of IP address in your configuration files since internal IP addresses will never resolve from outside your home network.  In case it's useful, I post copies of my .ini files on the FleepGrid Change Log page at: http://fleep.wikispaces.com/FleepGrid.

I also recently mapped out my directory structure for the multiple Opensim instances I run for the region clusters at:  http://fleep.wikispaces.com/Directory+Structure+for+FleepGrid.

Not sure if that helps, but maybe take a look and if you have other questions will try to help.

Good luck!

Re: HyperGrid Issues

I forgot to add, if you're serious about running your own publicly accessible Opensim grid from home, I'm a big fan of registering an actual domain name and getting a static IP address from your ISP - that resolved nearly all the networking issues I ran into when I was first trying to set up FleepGrid. I never could get the dyndns and NAT loopback stuff working properly on my network.

Sincerely,

RE: HyperGrid Issues

Randy Pierce

Chris,

Thanks for sending all this information. For the record, the DynDNS and loopback was the first obstacle I attacked and was extremely successful with. I know that part works fine as I have had others login after I registered them.

I wish Cincinnati was closer than it is from me in Clarksville, TN. I’d just jump in the car and come over. I’ll look on the FleepGrid and see if there is a way for me to make contact with you via personal email rather than via opensim-users.

If not, I’ll report back here for an update for anyone else having similar issues.

Randy

In reply to this post by Randy Pierce
You may need to use the external IP address provided by your ISP i.e.
xx.xx.xx.xx and not the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) i.e.
you.dyndns.org for your url to your sql server.  In some cases the FQDN does
not work correctly.  Also regions for hypergrid unless I have lost my memory
on reading the instructions provided via the wiki and through diva's own
instructions on her site require the regions to be located in cells around
the 6000,6000 area..

Additionally you will likely need to unblock port 3306 in your router and
firewall to allow other computers to access it for opensim to work.

Also your region.ini file in bin/Regions/  is configured correctly.  An
example of this is as follows:

 [Default Region]
RegionUUID = "11111111-2222-3333-4444-555555555555"
Location = "1000,1000"
InternalAddress = "192.168.1.xx"
InternalPort = 9000
AllowAlternatePorts = False
ExternalHostName = "xx.xx.xx.xx"

The reason why you don't want to use the FQDN in the region's file if using
dyndns is that it actually doesn't work as I have tried it.  It will work
for the viewer to get your grid info but not in the regions.ini file for
some odd reason.  At any rate it might be that it is also affecting your
ability to access your SQL server as well.  Remember the URL or IP address
must be accessible from outside your network by others on the internet.

It also does help to have your systems that run your grid and regions
servers assigned a static IP in your local area netowkr.  You can accomplish
this easily without much hassle using the software provided by
portforward.com

I hope that helps a little.

Hi Randy,

Based on the 192.168.x.x IP addresses, I'm assuming you're doing all this on
a home network.  On the issue of the Hypergrid, I've found that I am unable
to hypergrid from any machine on my home network EXCEPT the machine running
the ROBUST server.  That is, if I open the client on the same machine
running ROBUST, I can HG jump to other grids, but if I open the client on
any other machine on my home network, HG jump does not work and I see the
same kinds of errors you posted in your original post.

I keep hoping at some point there will be a fix to that, since I basically
can't use the Hypergrid from my own grid at all as a result, but for now if
I want to go HG visiting other grids, I have to log in to someone else's
grid as the starting point to jumping around.

Regarding your instance setup, in pretty much all cases, I think you will
want to use the FQDN instead of IP address in your configuration files since
internal IP addresses will never resolve from outside your home network.  In
case it's useful, I post copies of my .ini files on the FleepGrid Change Log
page at: http://fleep.wikispaces.com/FleepGrid.

I also recently mapped out my directory structure for the multiple Opensim
instances I run for the region clusters at:
http://fleep.wikispaces.com/Directory+Structure+for+FleepGrid.

Not sure if that helps, but maybe take a look and if you have other
questions will try to help.

Good luck!

I forgot to add, if you're serious about running your own publicly
accessible Opensim grid from home, I'm a big fan of registering an actual
domain name and getting a static IP address from your ISP - that resolved
nearly all the networking issues I ran into when I was first trying to set
up FleepGrid. I never could get the dyndns and NAT loopback stuff working
properly on my network.

Sincerely,

- Chris/Fleep

Re: HyperGrid Issues

opensiminfo
Looks around the list.      Randy I have missed your post about your network setup?    And to correct a prior post.   Unless your regions are connecting to a SQL server outside your network you should never open port 3306 to the public it makes you SQL server insecure.     But Randy if you could share your network setup in detail please.

Oddly on my grid, I used ExternalHostName = ryukyu.dnsdojo.com
It seems to work just fine. I have 10 test users, one of which calls
very often from Australia, and she connects just fine.
Remeber not to use the Http:// only the rest, and no port number on that
line.

I have never run a secondary machine to access the mysql database, so I
don't know how that effects that.

Re: HyperGrid Issues

In reply to this post by Randy Pierce
Okay with FQDN through dyndns it appears to affect some but not all.  For
example when using our dyndns FQDN url it actually doesn't work so we had to
use the external IP given by our ISP provider.  It could be a regional
problem though I am not sure.

Also I think Todd misunderstood my meaning about opening port 3306.  To
clarify I indicated you likely will need to open it.  In theory you should
not need to however in some cases I have found I needed to.  In this case
here it sounds like his instance is not able to access the mysql server
either due to the URL which needs to be accessible from the internet or the
port is being blocked.  It also may likely just be he needs to give the
computer that has the sql server on it a static IP in his local network.

However Todd is correct that you should never open this port unless you
really need to.

I hope this is of some help.

Emperor

Looks around the list.      Randy I have missed your post about your network
setup?    And to correct a prior post.   Unless your regions are connecting
to a SQL server outside your network you should never open port 3306 to the
public it makes you SQL server insecure.     But Randy if you could share
your network setup in detail please.

Oddly on my grid, I used ExternalHostName = ryukyu.dnsdojo.com It seems to
work just fine. I have 10 test users, one of which calls very often from
Australia, and she connects just fine.
Remeber not to use the Http:// only the rest, and no port number on that
line.

I have never run a secondary machine to access the mysql database, so I
don't know how that effects that.

Subject: [Opensim-users] Example  scriipt for Windlight wrong?
Message-ID: <[hidden email]>
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed

It would seem something isn't right about en example script found on :
http://opensimulator.org/wiki/LsGetWindlightScene

I think I have the correct permissions set, because the
lsSetWindlightScene <http://opensimulator.org/wiki/LsSetWindlightScene>
script works fine.  I wanted to use the lsGetWindlightScene command, to
use a water color, I selected in the client's windlight settings and
share with other.  Using this command should show me what to place in my
scripted item to set the windlight setting number for to get the same
color.  Eventually to create a small weather system using windlight for
cloudyness and more.  It seems this example won't compile.  Any Ideas
why not?

list  rules_to_get =[  WL_WATER_COLOR];
list  settings;

   default  {
     state_entry()  {
       settings =[[lsGetWindlightScene]](rules_to_get);
       llOwnerSay("Water color is:"+llList2String(settings,1));
     }
   }

RE: HyperGrid Issues

Randy Pierce

Believe me, I sincerely appreciate the assistance I am receiving in solving my dilemma. However, it appears as though some of you have misunderstood the problems.

Chris I believe you are aware of what my intent is.

For others,

(1)    My presence on the internet and the loopback and access to the SQL information are configured correctly.

(2)    I have had successful logins from an external access point.

(3)    I am able to login simultaneously with 5 avatars using multiple viewer instances.

(4)    I am currently running one instance of Opensim on the same computer system as the robust instance.

(5)    My intent was to setup OpenSim on a second separate computer and also move Robust services (or a portion) to a third system.

(6)    All of this is occurring on a home computer behind a firewall. I have successfully setup DYNDNS to provide internet presence. This can be verified by going to “gcse.dyndns.org” should you feel the need.

These are where my questions began.

If I have misunderstood your posts, I apologize. Again, I appreciate the attempts to help in this issue. Please read all of the information in the thread before attempting to help. Some of this is basic information that has already been setup (as clearly indicated in the thread).

Thank you and please continue to provide guidance after reading what is here.
