Importing collada and changing size of mesh objects issues

Dr Ramesh Ramloll
Hello,
I have been trying to import collada objects into the latest opensim builds (Sim-on-a-stick) and kitely. I am facing a recurring issue ...
When I rezz the imported object, they sometimes rezz fine but when I try to scale them it is either not possible, or the scale just jump to very high values.
The size of the collada files are between 90k to 125k (not too big really) ... I also see that there is 'on and off' a message regarding max_packet size being exceeded when I check out messages from the opensim server (don't know how to interpret that). What are the constraints for uploading collada objects in opensim? Are they documented somewhere?
Thanks
Ramesh

I'm not sure what's happening here - afaik mesh scaling is okay.  I haven't heard of this particular problem.

The max_packet_size is a mysql issue.  You can relieve it by increasing that size.  See, for example, [1].

Unfortunately, opensim specific documentation for collada upload is sparse.  However, this is going to be very similar
to the Linden Lab grid constraints, since most of the upload work is done by the viewer.  I suggest that you search
along those lines.  I believe that there are constraints on the types of COLLADA models that can be successfully uploaded.

I remember reading about scaling issues in the bare blender collada export script. I can't find the item now but it was referenced in the meshes tutorials. So, it may be the same issue with you files. IIRC, the uploaded mesh was small.

I think the comment is in the meshes I tutorial.

This posting on the osgrid forums sounds like the same issue, hopefully
will shed some light:

You may want to see some of my  notes on early tests of mesh.  Mesh
is working pretty well for me now in OpenSim and Second Life so long
as the Collada itself is compliant with the restrictions and
sub-meshes are not too large.  The Supercar overall test mesh in
Collada is 18MB.

You might want to see some of my notes, for example, at
