Just a note to say that I have been having the same issue as Rhianne,  and there have been a number of posts to various locations documenting the same issue...

A simple google search irevelas discussion about this issue on OSGRID forums since early JULY

9964 Install Problems

Postby legacy_jesenia on Fri Jul 03, 2009 7:52 pm

I am having problems getting 9964 to come up. Had the same problem when using SQLlite and MySQL databases.

Opensim.exe comes up fine.

When I try to login I get a message

"Login failed,
The avatar inventory service is not responding. Please notify your login region operator"

Yes, there is a workaround, (creating and using a newly created avatar) but NO the mantis classification of this as MINOR is NOT correct.   There are a number of us who were at a dead stop on upgrades and testing because there was no answer to these queries.   Please FIX the standalone config to WORK using the master avatar definition form the region..

Thanks

Subject: [Opensim-users] default user fails on latest standalone?
Hi,

I'm running:
Version: OpenSim 0.6.6 (Dev)        .10115 (interface version 5)
I created Test User and the region runs local standalone.
I haven't been using OS in the last few months, now I'm picking up again and the following occurred:
- 1st attempt logging in with master avatar:
13:05:33 - [STARTUP]: Startup took 1m 27s
13:06:36 - [LOGIN BEGIN]: XMLRPC Received login request message from user 'Test' 'User'
13:06:36 - [LOGIN]: XMLRPC Client is  0.5.1 (LL 1.22.11), start location is last
13:06:36 - [LOGIN]: Authenticating Test User
13:06:36 - [USER DB]: Syncing useragent database: 1 agents stored
13:06:37 - [INVENTORY SERVICE]: Getting inventory skeleton for f93f9c5b-ea11-41f0-ae8c-7f1bcf00729f
13:06:37 - [LOGIN]: A root inventory folder for user f93f9c5b-ea11-41f0-ae8c-7f1bcf00729f was not found.  Requesting creation.
13:06:37 - [LOGIN]: A new inventory skeleton was successfully created for user f93f9c5b-ea11-41f0-ae8c-7f1bcf00729f
13:06:37 - [INVENTORY SERVICE]: Getting inventory skeleton for f93f9c5b-ea11-41f0-ae8c-7f1bcf00729f
13:06:37 - [LOGIN END]: Error retrieving inventory skeleton of agent f93f9c5b-ea11-41f0-ae8c-7f1bcf00729f - System.Exception: A root inventory folder for user f93f9c5b-ea11-41f0-ae8c-7f1bcf00729f could not be retrieved from the inventory service

- next attempt with a new created extra avatar works.

- Back to Test User fails with same error.

What do I need to do to fix this?
(Changing the Master Avi in the region .ini is a nice work-around, but I imagine this default behaviour isn't what it should be?)

Regards,
Rhianne

Subject: Re: [Opensim-users] Hippo Viewer Full Download?

First let me say thanks for all the quick responses. Everyone is so great and
willing to help. I went to
http://sourceforge.net/projects/opensim-viewer/files/ and downloaded version
0.4.0 which not perfect is still usable. Hippo is the only viewer that works
perfectly on my current install of OpenSim and yes, I love Meerkat too. Now
I just need to figure out how the voice stuff works. :)

I am running OpenSim 0.6.6 in grid mode w/ 5 regions on Mono r139915.
I suspect this is a zlib error, but when I installed and configured mono I got the following:

checking for zlib.h... yes
Using system zlib

Here is the OpenSim log.

I just downgraded to Mono 2.4.2.3 (tarball) and this issue disappeared. I will make the Mono community aware of the issue.
