As for the increased stability obtained by removing physical movement. I don't think removing functionality from the only "capable" physics engine is a good plan. A significant amount of the content that I am interested in requires that basic ODE functions are available, and not crippled for periods which apparently extend across 2 point revs... Now that ODE is the default physics engine, I hope whoever decided to "fix it" can revisit this issue... It seems like a very poor plan to impress new users by handing them an intentionally crippled default.

relating to physics crashes also improved markedly - so could be that
whatever changed improved things for stability, but evidently caused
issues elsewhere. I for one don't want those frequent ODE crashes coming
back to haunt us.
