Standalone, MySQL & creating new regions crash

Kevin Buckley

Today I ran into a problem with creating new regions in standalone mode.  And I noticed that someone else has filed a mantise about it (http://opensimulator.org/mantis/view.php?id=4279&nbn=2).

Can anyone enlighten me what the advice “So stay with Memory storage for regions in standalone, for now.” means, or more specifically what the implications are? - Kevin

Re: Standalone, MySQL & creating new regions crash

Kevin Buckley

I’m trying to get a stable standalone working with the ultimate objective of operating in hypergrid standalone.

I’m using a binary set downloaded from OSGrid as this seems to be better (less ‘flailing’ with physics enabled for example) than the version 0.6.7 release.  I’ve changed the various .ini files for standalone (not hypergrid at this time) and I’m using MySQL (because I want to separate the data from the executables) and generally it works OK.

However, I have suddenly found I can’t add any more regions.  It crashes with this error:

2009-10-21 11:28:27,025 DEBUG - OpenSim.Region.Framework.Scenes.Scene [SCENE]: Registering with InterregionCommsIn

2009-10-21 11:28:27,085 WARN  - OpenSim.Services.GridService.GridService [GRID SERVICE]: Region 4f5d4aa6-a66e-4ae0-9933-8a7c6b16096c tried to register in coordinates 102400, 102400 which are already in use in scope 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000.

2009-10-21 11:28:27,105 ERROR - OpenSim.OpenSimBase [STARTUP]: Registration of region with grid failed, aborting startup -    at OpenSim.Region.Framework.Scenes.Scene.RegisterRegionWithGrid() in d:\OSGRID\OSGRID RELEASES\10-14-2009.osgrid.release.6d3d985511a8e70624c3a06a042890002f223978\OpenSim\Region\Framework\Scenes\Scene.cs:line 1352

   at OpenSim.OpenSimBase.CreateRegion(RegionInfo regionInfo, Boolean portadd_flag, Boolean do_post_init, IScene& mscene) in d:\OSGRID\OSGRID RELEASES\10-14-2009.osgrid.release.6d3d985511a8e70624c3a06a042890002f223978\OpenSim\Region\Application\OpenSimBase.cs:line 398

I don’t understand why it is trying to register with the grid as I have set gridmode = false in Opensim.ini.

Can anyone else who is running in standalone, with multiple regions, shed any light on this?

Would it be better to go back to v0.6.7?  If so, how to fix the ‘flailing’ when I enable ODE physics (because I want prims to not be phantom)?

Thanks - Kevin

A "grid" (map) exists always, even in standalone. The error you're
getting seems to be because you are trying to place that region in the
same coordinates of some other you already have.

If an HG standalone is what you want, you may want to try the distro I
maintain, the diva distro:
http://github.com/diva/diva-distribution/downloads
The post that describes it:
http://www.metaverseink.com/blog/?p=21

I will be making a new release this week, but old ones are easily
upgraded by running Upgrade.

As an experiment, I backported Teravus' flailing fix into the 0.6.7-post-fixes
branch.  Feedback on whether this worked would be appreciated.

Instructions for retrieving the 0.6.7-post-fixes branch from git are at
http://opensimulator.org/wiki/Download (the source code zips are not currently
automatically updated).
